Instructors

Professor Larry Pearson and Dean Ronald Spatz are the course coordinators. Professor Pearson is the instructor of record -- that is, he’s the person responsible for instructional issues including grading. Professor Pearson is a journalist, currently working part-time at the Anchorage Daily News and a retired UAA journalism professor. He is also a Web presence provider as proprietor of Online Design. He can be reached by e-mail at AHLLP@uaa.alaska.edu or Lpearson@pobox.alaska.net. He will be available in the seminar room before class on Thursdays.

Dean Spatz is in charge of the mentoring program and is the director of the honors program. He is UAA's dean of undergraduate research and scholarship, a member of the Creative Writing Department faculty and the executive editor of the Alaska Quarterly Review.

Guest instructors will lead 15 of the 30 class sessions. Many of them are senior faculty members (in a couple of cases, retired senior faculty members) with established reputations in their areas of expertise and they represent a broad range of disciplines. They will be listed, and their sessions described, in a supplement to this syllabus that will be provided early in the semester.
