Southeast Alaska is home to several extrordinary glaciers. On the Juneau road system is the Mendenhall Glacier, and a must see experience while in Juneau. While you cannot actually approach the glacier. There are excellent trails and a very worthwhile visitor center. Accessible only by boat is the incredible Tracy Arm, about 75 miles south of Juneau by water. Deep in a narrow, deep fiord lie two active glaciers. Iceburgs are everywhere, often larger than a house. Seals abound, and raise their young on the smaller iceburgs. Bears and even Mountain Goats are often sighted on the steep mountainsides that drop straight to the water's edge. The trip to Tracy Arm can be done in either four or five days, round trip form Juneau. Seven days are required for a trip around Admiralty Island with a stop at Tracy Arm. Admiralty Island is home to the highest concentration of Brown Bears in the world. Trips can also be one way from one town to another, with a ferrry or plane carrying you to another destination. Daily plane service is available in all small towns, and ferries are available north or south bound several times a week. The possibilities are countless. We are happy to explain the possible options and can suggest the trip best suited to your travel plans. Meals, snacks, soft drinks, coffee and tea are provided. Alcohol is not provided, although there is a liquor store at the harbor. Smoking is not permitted inside the boat, and nonmarking soles on your shoes is appreciated. The Top Dog has a comfortable flying bridge and a back deck for sightseeing.
