Alaska Brooks Range Arctic Adventures at
Lanigan's Retreat
Welcome to Lanigan's Retreat! We are located on the shores of Chandalar Lake, 190
miles north of Fairbanks on the south slopes of the Phillip Smith Mountains in Alaska's
Brooks Range. Ours is a year-round lodge surrounded by America's premiere arctic
wilderness, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
As I looked down on the North fork of the Chandalar River and Chandalar Lake in the late
1970's, I had a feeling that I was standing where only the wind had walked before me.
I still have that feeling today. You are at once overwhelmed with the enormity of
this vast majestic part of Alaska. It must be like finding the end of a rainbow!
The adventure opportunities in this
lovely part of Alaska are endless: Fly in and fish the lakes and streams. Hike out
on day or overnight trips. Photograph the wildlife and natural surroundings. Canoe or
kayak and explore the many waterways. Find a stream and try your luck at prospecting for
gold, or just relax and experience this majestic land of the Midnight Sun....and that's
just in the summer!
In the winter, snowmachine or fly
in to the lake and enjoy any of many possible Alaska winter adventure experiences. Snow
shoe, cross country ski, or snow mobile to the top of a summit and let the Northern Lights
dance around you. Curl up with a good book in a warm cozy Alaska cabin and listen as the
wolves serenade you. See our calendar for some possible
activities at different times of the year.
Being permanent residents of the
lodge, we can put together an arctic Alaska adventure or remote vacation to suit your
wishes at ANY time of the year. Groups of two to six, other than families, allows for a
more quality adventure. Prices vary depending on the type of arctic adventure you wish.
Let us work with you and make this the adventure you have always dreamed of.
Welcome to our home,
