WHALE WATCHING | |||
"Having a whale of a time, watching for whales". Beverly, Bronx, N.Y, | "Whales
slept in early on, but came out to play about 9:30 and put on a great show". Bill & Kay, Hastings, MN |
Perhaps one of the largest concentrations of "Humpbacks" in Alaska are found near Petersburg as they follow the food chain in Frederick Sound. You may also be fortunate enough to see a pod of "Orcas", a school of Dall's Porpoise, Harbor Seals or Steller's Sea Lions during the day. They are plentiful and playful here. While feeding, some "Humpback" trap large amounts of Krill or herring in a "Bubble Net" (bubbles released underwater while swimming in circles) The resulting "lunge" as they break the surface is indeed a sight to behold and you will never forget the experience.
