ALASKAN TICK STUDY

The National Tick Collection and UAA have joined forces to study emerging diseases and their vectors. They aim to determine which species occur here naturally, and which are imported. They would greatly appreciate any ticks encountered.

Please send them to: Alaska Natural Heritage Program, UAA, 707 ‘A’ Street, Anchorage, AK 99501. Ticks may be shipped 1) alive in a vial, with a bit of filter or other paper as a cushion; 2) dried in a vial; or 3) as a last resort, dead scotch taped to a card in an envelope.

Please include with the sample the following information: your name, address, contact phone, host animal, origin (town in AK or if recently arrived from outside), and any other data you feel appropriate.

Data collection may take several years, but the AKNHP will provide reprints of the resulting report to those who provide specimens.
