Board Members Jennifer Hooper – Alaska Regional Director and NAFWS Board of Directors Jennifer Hooper, from Bethel, Alaska is a Yup’ik Eskimo. Jennifer currently works as the Director of the Natural Resources Department at the Association of Village Council Presidents (AVCP). Her job requires her to keep current the fish and marine mammal related studies and research goals of various agencies. This includes dealing with numerous agencies about issues affecting AVCP’s villages on the Bering sea Coast. AVCP is a regional native non-profit organization that represents 56 tribal villages in Southwest Alaska. Before her present position, Jennifer served as a Fish and Wildlife Technician II at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game for four years. Jennifer graduated in 1997 from Texas A & M University at Galveston with a degree in Marine Biology. She is married and has one child. In addition to her position as a NAFWS Board Director she serves as an advisor to the Yukon River Panel and was formerly appointed by Governor Tony Knowles of Alaska. As a Board of Director for the Alaska Region, Jennifer said, “ I would like to strengthen the working relationships among Alaska’s Native people and the many organizations we interact with.” She intends to keep the Native people of her region represented, their voices heard and understood. “I also want to make sure they have a seat at every table and are treated as equals at that table”. Jennifer can be reached at jhooper@avcp.org Gloria Stickwan – Alaska Regional Director and NAFWS Board of Directors Gloria Stickwan is from Copper Center where she works for the Ahtna Regional Corporation as the Shareholder Lease Coordinator. In her previous job she worked for the Copper River Native Association as the Community Development Director. She has served on various commissions, boards and committees in Alaska such as the Native Village of Tazlina, Ahtna Inc. Board, Migratory Birds, and Wrangell St. Elias Park and Preserve Subsistence Resource Commission, the Rural Alaska Resource Association and the Prince William Sound Aquaculture Corporation. Gloria can be reached at gstickwan@ahtna-inc.com. Gloria’s term ends in May of 2003 when Marty Waters is installed in her position on the Board of Directors. Marty Waters – Alternate – Alaska Regional Director and NAFWS Board of Directors Marty Waters works as the Native Liaison and Outreach Coordinator for the Wilderness Society. His job before working for the Wilderness society was with the Ocean Conservancy working as the Native Liaison. Marty worked at the Native American Fish and Wildlife Society in April 2000 as a Professional Intern for the Water Quality and Aquatic Environment Monitoring Project and the Contaminants program. Marty and Michelle Davis are developing a Marine Mammal guide for use by tribes. Marty is of Sugpiaq Aleut descent and is from the Native Village of Port Heiden. Marty is a commercial fisherman in Bristol Bay and has completed a BA in Liberal Arts at Alaska Pacific University. He has represented the Bristol Bay Economic Development Corporation, Native Village of Port Heiden, Piamiut Traditional Council at the Working Group for Indigenous Populations at the United Nations.
