Circumpolar Flight ItineraryDay 1: Anchorage, Alaska Days 2 & 3: Petropavlovsk, Russia Days 4 & 5: Yakutsk, Russia Our next stop takes us to the heart of Russian Siberia, Yakutsk, located in the Sakha Republic. A modern city - home to some of the largest diamond and gold mining operations in the world. Yakutsk offers the visitors a rich tapestry of native culture and history combined with the burgeoning boom-town atmosphere of the old West. There will be a special reception hosted by the President of the Republic, Mikhail Nikolayev. Native entertainment and a banquet dinner will complete the festivities. Day 6: Tiksi, Russia After breakfast, we depart this morning for Tiksi, one of the northernmost cities in the Arctic - located on the delta of the Lena River. We will enjoy a hosted lunch, a tour of the city which will include a visit to the seaport, Tiksi Museum and the Arctic College. A special cultural program is planned prior to our departure this afternoon to Archangel. We will tour the city of Archangel, which was founded in 1584 and is the oldest Russian seaport. Day 7: Nar-Yan Mar, Russia / Archangels, Russia Day 8: Rovaniemi, Finland During our stay in Archangel, we will observe the city's architecture and culture, which has preserved facets of both Russian and Northern European traditions. We then head to Murmansk, where we will clear Russian customs and fly to Rovaniemi, Finland. Day 9: Kiruna, Sweden / Boda Norway Days 10 & 11: Reykjavik, Iceland After an overnight in Bodo, we fly across the Norwegian sea to Reykjavik, Iceland for a two day stay. We will explore the city and countryside with visits to Hveragerdi, Geyser Hot Springs and Gulfoss. In the evening we will attend a Viking dinner. Day 12: Narsarsuaq, Greenland / Iqalluit, Canada Our next destination is Narsarsuaq, Greenland. We will travel by boat to visit Qassiarsuk, where Eric The Red, the real discoverer of Greenland, had his farm in 985 AD. A possible excursion by helicopter to the Ice Cap can be arranged. We will learn about the many traditions to be found in Greenland, including their national costume. We will then fly to Iqalluit, Canada to clear customs. Day 13: Churchill, Canada Day 14: Yellowknife, Canada / Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada From Churchill we fly to Yellowknife, the administration and transportation center of the Northwest Territories of Canada. Although beginning as a frontier mining town, Yellowknife is a modern city with tall buildings and excellent hotels. Day 15: Anchorage, Alaska
