As Alaska is quite large this calendar only applies to the upper Susitna River drainage in Southcentral Alaska, other areas
of the state will be different. Click here for map of Southcentral Alaska.
The calendar above will show you some of the best times to fish Southcentral Alaska. The peak
salmon periods are the times when there are the most fresh fish in the water. During the "shoulder
" periods the fish are either in the process of coming in or are showing their spawning
colors. We catch a lot of fish and we release a lot of fish, if you wish to retain any salmon please
plan your trip during the peak or early part of the run. Trout are available through-out the summer
but the best fishing definitely comes in the fall after the salmon have spawned and the trout have moved into
the main drainages to fatten up for winter. This is also when the largest trout are caught.
All Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden and Arctic Grayling will be released.
