Day Tours

We offer two day tours, both of which are perfect if you are passing through the area and want to get out and explore for the day.

Our Petersburg Creek tour is a four hour, guided paddling tour up scenic Petersburg Creek. All of the gear is provided, including stable double kayaks (great for learning!), PFDs, paddles, spray skirts, and we also bring along a snack for you. The tour leaves directly from Petersburg's South Harbor and we paddle through the harbor on our way up the creek. No paddling experience is necessary, and children are welcome!

Our Rainforest Hike/LeConte Glacier Fjord Tour is an all day, guided tour that allows you to experience two very diverse areas near Peters- burg. In the morning, you will hike on a boardwalk trail through the Tongass National Forest, learning about plants, birds, and the ecology of the muskeg. Your hike will take you out to the ocean where you will be met by a powerboat which will take you to LeConte Glacier Fjord. In the fjord you will travel in and out of an array of blue ice bergs, past thundering waterfalls and steep granite walls, and up to get a view of LeConte Glacier--the southermost tidewater glacier in North America! And when it's all over, the powerboat will return you to Petersburg.

Base Camp Tours

These tours are designed to offer you the highest quality wilderness experience, while also providing you a comfortable home base, prepared before your arrival. Your only responsibilities are to kayak, relax, and enjoy your adventure!

The days are spent paddling out around the base camps, exploring areas of breathtaking scenery and observing wildlife in their natural habitats, all at a relaxed and leisurely pace. In the evenings, we proudly serve a variety of Petersburg’s finest seafood around a crackling fire, protected from the elements by large tarps that cover the kitchen and dining areas. At night, you will retire to a spacious dome tent for a comfortable night’s rest.

Our base camps are located at Big Creek on Frederick Sound, and at Indian Point in LeConte Glacier Bay. Transportation to and from the camps is by either floatplane or large power boat.

We offer three-night base camp tours at LeConte Glacier Bay and Big Creek on Frederick Sound. We also offer a week-long Glaciers & Whales Package that goes to both camps for three nights.

Explorer Tours

Our explorer tours offer the thrill and challenge of being entirely self-contained within the kayaks, but with the luxury of setting up camp only two or three times throughout the week! Prior experience is not necessary; our experienced guides will teach you the skills that you’ll need for this wilderness adventure, including the art of packing a kayak and camp set-up.

We typically paddle 4-6 hours a day, which allows us to fully explore and experience the area. Don't worry, though--the kayaks are large enough to carry lots of fresh food, including fresh Petersburg seafood. We even bring a folding oven for baking to satisfy those with a sweet tooth! Our tents are spacious and top-of-the-line, and we hang up tent tarps and group tarps to help us stay dry.

Since our kayaks will be loaded, tour participants must be age 12 or older, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

We offer explorer tours to LeConte Glacier Bay, Tebenkof Bay Wilderness Area, and the Stikine River.

Rentals

The paddling opportunities around Petersburg are endless! LeConte Glacier Bay with its tidewater glacier, the Stikine River, Thomas Bay, Frederick Sound, Kuiu Island and Duncan Canal are all areas that offer outstanding paddling opportunities for people seeking an Alaskan adventure.

The camping is excellent and there are more than 20 U.S. Forest Service Cabins available for rent that make perfect base camps for kayakers.

Our double kayaks are fiberglass Eddyline Whisper XL's (21 feet long with a 32" beam) with three bulkheaded hatches for safety and plenty of storage space.

The fiberglass singles are Wind Dancers (17 feet long with 23.5" beam) with bulkheaded hatches. The plastic singles are Prijon Kodiaks (17 feet long with a 24" beam) and a Prijon Baracuda (16.9 feet long with a 21" beam), both with bulkhead hatches.

Kayak rentals include Mid Swift 230 cm breakdown paddle, a spare paddle, nylon spray skirt, Extrasport PFD, hand pump and sponge.

We do have additional kayaking equipment and some camping equipment for rent if you need it.

Your safety is a major concern for us! Alaska is a wonderful place to paddle but it is not always very forgiving. The water is extremely cold, the tides can be up to 20 feet and help is not available around every corner. So in order to ensure you a safe and enjoyable trip, we require our renters to have previous experience. Also, prior to your departure we will go over the equipment, and talk about general safety, route planning and local hazards.

A complete itinerary for your trip must be filed with our office before the kayaks will be released.

Our rental rates are as follows:

Doubles $65 per day

Singles $55 per day

There is a 3 day minimum. Rentals for 7 days or more receive a 20% discount on the total rental charge.

If you plan to rent kayaks, please contact Scott Roberge regarding availability. You can visit our links page to learn more about our area and cabin reservations, as well as our General Information and FAQs page.
