What’s involved if you volunteer?
Spaghetti Dinners: Host a spaghetti dinner – a great way to meet
your skier’s teammates. Spaghetti
dinners are held before races. They have
typically run from 6-8 PM. You can expect up to 50 skiers. Experienced hosts and hostesses say don’t
worry, it’s easy. We have “how to” tips
for you. The kids are great and willing
to help. The boosters club will reimburse
the ingredients and supplies. You just post
the invitation with date, directions and time in the ski room and open up your house
to 40+ wonderful teenagers. What could
be easier? Send the info with time and place to sahsxc@hotmail.com and we’ll put it on the
web. Also check out the helpful
how to hints!
Snacks at Races: The skiers always appreciate some good food and hot drinks before and/or after the race. Six parents are needed for each race. Two families bring the carbs; bagels, muffins, wholesome cookies; cut large muffins and bagels into smaller pieces. Two other families bring fruit; orange wedges, grapes or bananas are popular fruits. The hot chocolate mix, hot cider mix, or a sport drink mix is brought by the last two families. These families should also bring plastic spoons and cups. Hot and cold water and a table will be provided by the team. Bring enough healthy snacks for at least 50 skiers.
.
Table, water
containers and heater: You need to transport a heater, one
folding table and two large thermos containers with hot and cold water to the
race venue. If you volunteer for this
job you pick up the items etc. at the end of one race, store the items until the
next race, and deliver them at the next race venue before the race.
Help during ski practices: South has a large ski team, so the coaches
can use all the help they can get. It
would be great if you could help during practices. You can write down what your preference is –
a certain day or certain days of the week, occasionally, drop by when you can
etc.
Video taping at
ski practices for video analysis:
The coaches like to use video analysis to show the kids ski
technique. They would like volunteers to
videotape during some practices. The
coaches will contact you when they like you to videotape.
Volunteers to help coaches on race days: The coaches need help on race days. Volunteers do anything the coaches ask you to do. Especially during relay races and during classic races (when the coaches are waxing) extra help is needed.
Volunteers for clothing order and distribution: The kids will be ordering ski jackets, ski pants, gloves etc. The volunteers organize and distribute these orders. Volunteers are also needed for passing out the racing suits later on.
Regions BBQ: Many of our skiers
moved over from Service and they brought the idea of an end of the season
BBQ. This occurs Saturday at the Regions race at Kincaid. We set up a BBQ, have burgers, chips and
drinks. The first year we even had a
couch to relax on. Volunteers are needed
to help with set up, bringing a BBQ-grill, bringing chips, drinks, etc., food
prep, serving, and take down.
Awards Banquet: A chance to celebrate the
season! We celebrate with a theme (Retro
Prom Night,
Skiathalon – Race hosted by South: We need a volunteer
coordinator and lots of families to help out during the race. There are outside and inside jobs and some
jobs you can do at home.
Fundraising: Are you good at raising money for a worthy event? The Booster’s Club pays for awards, the banquet, wax and other supplies for the team, spaghetti dinners, etc. Sign up if you have ideas, or if you just like to help.
Photos and videos are appreciated! Pictures are always fun. Photos and/or videos of racers are needed so we can put together a photo show or video presentation for the banquet. The video is a great opportunity for someone creative to use their video production skills. To get your photos on the web, you can email them to sahsxc@hotmail.com If you don’t do digital Costco can put your photos on a CD, or we can scan them in but it may take a little longer that way.
