A Giant Halibut if there ever was one! |
|
1000+ lb. Giant Pacific Halibut (broke the scale) Caught by Steve Hempel and his Papa, Herbert McCoy (World's Greatest Fisherman) on April 1, 1999, at Spot X, Alaska on 5 lb. test line, without a net or gaff (Hemp routinely jumps into the water and puts a lip-lock on the little ones to subdue them)) |
P.S.: Do you really think a lawyer/fisherman would tell the truth (when talking about big fish and where to catch them)? This image is a spoof of an actual photo of a real 950 pound Hippoglossus stenolepsis (Pacific Halibut) caught in Pelican, Alaska, in 1956. The fish was caught in a gillnet by Emmett Wood and "Whiskey Mike" while fishing for salmon. It was given to Pelican Cold Storage to pay off an engine repair debt. A small section provided a meal for the full crew of 120 persons and the rest was discarded. Copies of the original Print are available from the owner, if you want an address, please let me know. |
