Q: Did you really think that this was funny? Some of it's pretty cheesy, and some of the responses aren't really very interesting.

A: You gotta take the good with the bad. There's some genuinely funny stuff here.

A: Most of the subscribers were on the VAXen in the University of Alaska computer system. The notation in the original in-house email system (UACN Mail) was HOST::email-address. This was just internally. Back in the late '80s and early '90s at UAA, you had to get special permission for your account to be able to send email out to other systems.

First character: location A - Anchorage F - Fairbanks I - Soldotna J - Juneau P - Palmer? R - ? V - Valdez Second character: status S - Student T - Graduate Student X - "Nodie" - lab assistants, sysadmins, etc. F - Faculty (no subscribers that I remember) N - Non-faculty staff Remaining alphabetic characters : initials Suffix digits: to make it unique when there were collisions

There were a couple of people that occasionally answered from the Math Department's Unix box (saturn).

There were actually a couple of subscribers from outside the UA system, but I didn't know them very well.

This is pretty much the entire list - all the names that I could remember, I've added. If you know any of the others, let me know.

The ones with question marks are either guesses on my part or names dug up from an older, unrelated list. Since most usernames didn't get recycled much back then, this data is, perhaps, 50% reliable.

A: There are a couple of "Mental Health Updates" that I sent out between issues that I'm still scrounging around for.

A: The "Informal Resource Network". It sounded suitably important without actually meaning anything.
This was &!%* hilarious at the time, for reasons that escape me at the moment.
