Carved Bone Pendants
Symbolize Friendship and Campanionship On a recent trip to New Zealand I ran into a local who told me the legend behind the many Fish Hook pendants and carvings I had seen. After returning home, further research uncovered numerous legends from around the world surrounding the Fish Hook and it's various designs. Since long ago stories have been passed along of the old ways and traditions of ancient peoples. As with most people of the time they lived close to the earth, relying upon the resources of land and sea, and were continually aware of the creative forces, including gods and goddesses, in their daily living. To these they turned for blessings and ceremonials of thanksgiving. To many of the coastal or island people the fish was a very important staple and because of that the Fish Hook and the catching of the fish brought a great many legends and stories passed down through the centuries. Today, as in days past...According to legend...The Fish Hook is believed to provide safe journey over water, protects from evil and brings peace and good health to the wearer. It also represents strength and determination, but it ultimately symbolizes friendship and companionship. And this is what I had in mind when I created these pendants. Nowhere is there a friendship stronger than that of Xena and Gabrielle and who better could use a symbol of protection and safe journey? These pendants are carved from real bone and measure 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches in length. They come with a leather cord, velvet pouch and a scroll with the right up of The Hook. They are available in antiqued stained or white ivory like colors. |
