Greetings, Here are two items that might help you with your NSPE and Western Region communications. First is to make sure NSPE has your current e-mail address. I've copied some information on this e-mail to help explain what that's all about. The second item is the Western Region Listserve that has been started by Marti Kramer and I've copied some of that information for you also. If you would like more information on this contact Marti. The Western Region meeting held in Los Vegas Saturday went pretty well. Minutes will be available on that soon. We did approve a Western Region Operating Procedures and I believe all of the items you had expressed concern about were incorporated in the revisions. A final version of what was approved will be available in about 2 weeks. Ken Walch, P.E., Civil Engineer ********************************************* 7. Help NSPE Keep Member E-mail Addresses Up-to-Date As NSPE has moved more and more of its services and systems online, member access to e-mail has become a critical part of active participation in the Society. However, many members' e-mail addresses have not been updated or were never entered into NSPE's database. NSPE is asking all of its members to send their e-mail addresses to insidenspe@nspe.org (type "E-mail Address Update" in the subject line). Providing an accurate e-mail address to NSPE allows you to receive the free weekly "U.S. Engineering Press Review," which summarizes engineering news from the general press and trade publications. In addition, e-mail access gives you an efficient line of communication with NSPE staff and allows you to participate in the Practice Division Discussion Forums and the Mentoring Forum on the NSPE Web site, www.nspe.org. Get plugged in and stay on top of advances in your profession by updating your e-mail address today! ********************************************* To: Western Region Engineers Here is our opening attempt to utilize a listserve to communicate within the Western Region. We are the pilot program for the nation. What we learn from this will be communicated to other regions, so lets make a good showing. There are only 40 people on this list right now. I used the names of individuals who had attended a Western Region breakfast recently. I need to keep it small until we get the bugs out of the system. In order to subscribe to the list, log on to www.topica.com/lists/nspewestern/ and follow the "subscribe" link. In order to use (send a message to) the Western Region List Serve, after being accepted to the list, address your email to: nspewestern@topica.com Here are some important rules that will keep us all on line. 1. If you are using an automated reply (if you are going out of town) on your own email system, PLEASE let me know so I can remove you from the list. I can also change your address temporarily to your home email for the period that you will be out of the office. If you don't everyone on this list will get continual responses (one about every three minutes) from your auto reply. This is called looping and can and will crash the systems many of us are using. Also, we will all know who you are as the auto response will have your name on it. And you know how tuff this group can be. 2. When you receive a message and want to respond only to the person who sent the message, you must start a new message addressed only to those who you want to see your response. If you use the "reply" or the "reply to author" button, your direct response to any email with the nspewestern@topica.com address will be sent to all 40 of us. If you want all of us to see your response use either of those buttons to respond. Thanks for your participation. Let the dialogue begin! Marti Kramer, CAE |
