This
could possibly be the once in a lifetime opportunity to secure an original Skip Wallen
water color. Featuring a fantastic old Juneau landmark: The original Basin Road
and
the old Alaska Juneau Mine buildings. This road is still in use today and
leads the way to the
Jualpa Mine and the head of Perseverance Trail. |

It is
truly a pleasure for me to have the opportunity to handle this exceptional piece.
His incredible series of stone lithographs are awe inspiring but in my opinion, they
are eclipsed by this original. I can now say that Skip's talent can only truly be
appreciated
by examining the technical expertise of this painting and subsequently two other
originals I discovered
here in Juneau. |
|
This is
on consignment from the original owner who purchased this incredible piece directly
from Skip. I disassembled the piece from its original frame, inspected its
condition and
re-matted it using archival materials. The condition is immaculate with no trace of
yellowing
or mat-burn. As with most original water colors of this era, it was mounted using
paper-tape,
which had yellowed. This was subsequently removed with only slight traces of adhesive
remaining. It is my opinion that this will have no adverse effects on the integrity
of the painting.
It was created on heavy high-quality rough textured water color board. The owner
stated to me
that Skip had a show in the early 1970's and featured approximately ten of his
original water
colors. They were immediately sold and the owner felt very fortunate she was able to
obtain
this one. The continued desirability of Wallen's work and his integration into the
international
art scene makes this quite possibly a substantial investment opportunity. In
researching value
of this piece and searching for comparable paintings, as mentioned above, I did
located two other
originals in Juneau. Without exception, no current owner was remotely
interested in selling theirs. |
|
The
painting's size is approximately 14¼ x 21½ inches excluding matting. I will return it to
a new custom frame using archival materials with museum quality glazing. The price
will of course
include packaging, delivery and full value insurance. |
