What All Them Words & Letters Mean

      This may help some readers to have a better understanding of what is being spoken of on these pages and in the stories. If you have a question about something that is not clarified here, e-mail me for a definition and I'll try to add it to the list.

Alcan			The Alaska Highway. Starts at Dawson Creek, B.C. as Hwy. 37, becomes YT Hwy. 1 
		in the Yukon Territory, and finishes as AK Hwy 2 at Delta Jct., AK
BB1500			Bun Burner 1500©
BBG			Bun Burner Gold©
Border to Border©	Canada to Mexico (or reverse) in 36 hours or less
 
Bun Burner 1500©	A ride of 1500 miles or more in 36 hours or less
Bun Burner Gold©	A ride of 1500 miles or more in 24 hours or less
Cassiar     		The Cassiar (or Stewart-Cassiar) Highway.  A wilderness highway (BC-37N)
		 in northwestern British Columbia, Canada.
COGlist     		An e-mail list for owners of the Kawasaki Concours, and members of the Concours 
		Owners Group (COG)
Concours		A Kawasaki motorcycle model
Connie			Affection term for a Concours
Dalton Hwy.		A 441 mile, mostly gravel, road connecting the Elliott Hwy. north of Fairbanks,
		AK with Deadhorse, AK.
Darien			One model of Aerostich motorcycle clothing
Deadhorse		A location in northern Alaska, near Prudhoe Bay, and at the northern end of the 
		Dalton Hwy.
FJR1300     		A Yamaha motorcycle model
Four Corners Tour	A tour of the United States that involves going to each of the four corners, in 
		any order, within 21 days.  The four corner sites are: Madawaska, ME, Key West, FL, 
		San Ysidro, CA, and Blaine, WA
Gerbing     		Manufacturer of electrically heated riding garments
Gerbings		Electrically heated garments made by Gerbing
GL1800			Honda GL1800 Gold Wing motorcycle.  Any Gold Wing 2001 or newer
Gold Wing		A large touring motorcycle manufactured by Honda Motor Company
GPS			Global Positioning System receiver
HID			High intensity discharge - refers to very bright head and/or driving lights, with 
		a very white, almost bluish, light

LDRider     		Long Distance Rider (the LD does NOT refer to that uniquely male appendage in its 
		flaccid state, as has been implied by more than one hirsute rider of technologically 
		deficient bikes)
ldrlist     		LDRider e-mail list
LEO			Law Enforcement Officer (NOT meant as a derogatory term)
list			Usually refers to ldrlist
PMS			Parked Motorcycle Syndrome.  A seasonal condition that afflicts some motorcyclists, 
		especially those living in the northern portion of the United States, and the majority of 
		those living in Canada and Alaska.  Most noticeable during January and February.
Roadcrafter		One model of Aerostich motorcycle wear
RTE			Ride To Eat.  If you need a reason to go for a ride, what could be better than 
		good food and camaraderie at the destination.
SaddleSore 1000©	A ride of 1000 miles in 24 hours or less AFTER it has been documented and approved 
		by the IBA
SaddleSore 2000©	A ride of 2000 miles or more in 48 hours or less
SaddleSore 3000©	A ride of 3000 miles in 3 days
SaddleSore 5000©	A ride of 5000 miles in 5 days
Splat			The mortal remains of various insects after impacting the windshield and 
		other leading portions of a motorcycle
Splooge     		Splat combined with heavy rain.  A good reason to ride with faceshield 
		(and mouth) closed
SS1K			SaddleSore 1000©
SS2K			SaddleSore 2000©
ST1100			Honda ST1100 motorcycle.  A sport-touring motorcycle sold in the U. S. up until 
		2001.  It has been replaced by ?? the ST1300.

V-1			Short form of Valentine One, a top quality, top-of-the-line radar detector/locator
