U.S.A. SINGER-SONGWRITERS YOU MAY ALREADY KNOW...

John Prine - Everything a great singer-songwriter can be, all wrapped up into one wonderful person. I was lucky enough to open three shows for John on his Alaska tour, and spend some time backstage with him at the Atwood Concert Hall in Anchorage. A very humble and talented soul indeed, and we found out that we both have a passion for touring in New Zealand... You can never see enough Prine!

The Spin Doctors - You probably know the song "Two Princes"? Well, the band I was in back in 1994 (Kabulonga Surfers) covered that song, and at that time the Spin Doctors were international stars with their cool CD "Pocket Full Of Kryptonite" selling about 8 million units world wide. So when I was invited to open two shows for them this year in Anchorage, I was more than stoked. These guys were very cool and let us make use of their eight giant stage monitors and an incredible lighting system.
Jason Mraz - GOT MRAZ????? Jason is an acoustic rock wizard who's music career blasted off with both barrels smoking hot. When I did my first show at Java Joe's in Ocean Beach in 2001, he was packing that club every thursday night with Toca Rivera backing him on the congas...that was enough to catch the attention of Electra Records who he soon landed a record deal with. Whenever I think my tours are killing me, I just check out what Jason is up to and I am inspired all over again!

Dar Williams - She speaks to my soul - went to her Anchorage show for the first time in 2000 and just fell in love from there on! It seems her voice and music just flows from her like magic, and every show is alive, new, and good fun. Had the most fortunate chance to chat with her this year after one of her solo shows, and she is as magic in person as on the stage, and her stories amazing!

U.S.A. SINGER-SONGWRITERS I RECOMMEND CHECKING OUT...

Gail Swanson -  Who is the tanned and beautiful singer who had the top rock album in Hawaii last year...that would be Gail! Not only that, she opened for Melissa Etheridge in the same year. She is a huge John Prine fan and she emailed me after I opened for John in Anchorage, very curious about how it went. So if you make it over to Maui, be sure to catch her concerts and get her new CD!

Mark Erelli - Meet the "Hillbilly Pilgrim" from Boston, a most wonderful guitar and harp playin' acoustic artist who now has four great CD's under his belt and on the street. Had a chance to meet Mark at his show in Anchorage... he was so "in the groove" as he played the world's only double decker harp.

Jake Armerding - I think Jake is the first singer-songwriter I've met who can masterfully play the mandolin, guitar and fiddle at will during a concert. He's a fine singer also with gutsy urban folk and a Boston Red Sox cap to prove it. We met after his Anchorage show with Mark Erelli, I am hoping to team up with him somehow somewhere on the American Journey tour if our stars line up...

INTERNATIONAL SINGER-SONGWRITERS I RECOMMEND CHECKING OUT...

Anders Ese -   Anders could very well be one of Norway's finest music treasures and he just keeps growing! Anders joined me for an original music project in Lusaka, Zambia in 1995 when he was only 17 and already quite the bass player and singer. When his family returned to Norway, he jumped right into the music scene of Trondheim and formed a most excellent band called At Fathoms Depth.

Mike Hall - A man who has total command of his blues voice and harp, and has performed for thousands across several continents. Mike and I met back in 1991 in Lusaka, Zambia and we decided to assemble a new rythym & blues band called Kabulonga Surfers which transformed into a very popular ex-patriot dance rock band... now Mike fronts his own band in the capital city of Beijing.

David Findlay Brown - Scotland was never the same while Dave was a rockin' bass player and singer from 1991-1996 in Lusaka, Zambia. He joined up with the Kabulonga Surfers and believe me there was never a moment without his great jokes or comedy stunts, Dave is a great non-stop entertainer. He is now back in his home town of Edinburgh rockin' and writing away, catch him if you can!
