The Kenai River is home to the 4 favorite species of Salmon as well as some of the finest Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden you will ever see.  Not to be left out, the Steelhead put one a wonderul fight and grow very large.  Often while fishing you might get the feeling you are being watched, and that if often the case from the moose and eagles that are always wanting to know whom is fishing in their river.

We are more than happy to suggest several of the finest guides on the Kenai and Kasolif Rivers to you for your fishing experience, upon making your reservation or when you arrive.  We also work with fantastic Halibut and Ling Cod guides for your saltwater fishing experience.

We recommend you bring waist or chest waders, quality rain gear and warm clothing for layering. During our summer, Alaskan temperatures can reach 80 degrees but when it rains, one might feel uncomfortable unless properly dressed. If you want to bring one of your own favorite rods, feel free to do so, as there are a lot of wonderful bodies of water to fish around here.  If you have questions as to what type of tackle you might want to bring, please feel free to give us a call or send us an Email.  PLEASE NOTE: most guides provide all the equiptment you will need while you are fishing with them.  We provide a fish cleaning area and freezer space to store your catch until you leave.

Most Common Alaskan Fishes you could catch

KING SALMON
Known for its trophy-size Alaska King salmon, the Kenai River has two runs of these great fish. The first run begins in mid-May and the second in early July,  endng on July 31st.  In May 1985, a 97+ lb. Alaska king salmon was landed and still holds the current world record.  Kenai River king salmon average 30 to 60 lbs. with many in the 60 to 80 lb. Range.  The best way to fish for these magnificent fish is from a boat with a fishing guide.  The guides are experienced and know where to find the fish.  Some folks like to "try" to fish for them from the bank but landing them is another story!

RED SALMON
The Alaska Sockeye, or red salmon, is probably the most sought after fish next to the Kenai Kings.  Red Salmon provides anglers with the some of the best salmon eating, great bank fishing, and a lot of action.  There are two runs, the first in June and the other beginning in mid-July when fishing fever hits the Kenai Peninsula!  Why fight the crowds when you can enjoy fishing in solitude on our very own Private Dock?  These ocean-fresh Alaska salmon provide a lot of after-hours fun.

SILVER SALMON
Beginning in August, the acrobatic Alaska Silver or Coho salmon will give you an Alaska fishing experience you won't soon forget! Alaska Silver salmon usually weigh between 8 and 15 pounds with trophies up to 20 pounds. These Alaska salmon are fun to catch and they are excellent eating.  Many anglers try their luck fishing for these wonderful game fish using light line and have some of the best batttles they will ever have.  And for you flyfishermen, if you thought bone fish were fun on a flyrod, then you have to try fly fishing for the wonderful Silver Salmon.  This is our families #1 salmon to catch for a reason.  On even numbered years, a huge run of pink Alaska salmon arrive with the silver salmon giving fishermen enough angling action to last a lifetime.

RAINBOW & DOLLY VARDEN TROUT
Trout fishing the Kenai River is excellent.  August through October are great months to go after these beauties.  They feast all summer long on Salmon eggs so many grow close to 30 inches!  There are outfitters and guides on the Kenai Peninsula who offer full days of fishing for trophy trout.  We will be happy to make those arrangements for you as well.

PACIFIC HALIBUT
Pacific Halibut are abundant in Alaska.  Halibut fishing here is good May thru September with boats leaving on a Daily basis out of Homer, Deep Creek, and Anchor Point, weather permitting.  All of these are about a 1 hour drive from Kenai River Hideaway B&B.  Alaska Halibut fishing trips are dependent upon the weather and seas but when these cooperate you are sure to take home halibut!   Sometimes you get lucky and will get a nice Ling cod or Goldeneye as well.

Early season Halibut taste so good, just ask your hosts!  That is Pat and his sister June.
