The Mysteries of the Northland
al´ba, n. [L. alba, f. of albus,
white.] white, esp. the white nerve tissue of the brain and spinal cord.
|
bõ´re-al, a. [LL. borealis, from Boreas.] northern; pertaining to the north, especially the north wind. There is something strangely different about the northern
latitudes of this planet, a difference that sets apart this cooler area from the warmer
climes in more than climate alone. The same may be said of the higher southern latitudes, but
to a lesser degree. If one looks at a globe it is immediately apparent that, whereas the land
mass north of 45 degrees north latitude is huge, the land mass south of 45 degrees
south latitude is virtually non-existent. In practical terms, the entire history
of mankind has been a story of strife between groups of northern peoples, and even broader
and more fundamental ideological differences between northern and equatorial groups.
| What makes the People of the North - the 'Alba-Boreans' - so dynamically different? Is it "something in the water?" Or, more seriously, could it be due to earth currents, electromagnetic earth fields, or some more subtle energy released by the endlessly reversing cycles of crystallizing water? Or might it be due to human interaction with the fauna of the north? Or, more likely, with the higher rate of basal metabolism necessary to maintain body temperature... and the unending exigencies of life to maintain that higher rate? As a point of departure on this investigation of northland mysteries we begin with what may be the central mystery of it all, the rather unbelievable history of the Celts. These were an ancient people with which virtually all Europeans and those of European ancestry have common bond. The Celts are our very own 'natives.' |
