Coach Harry Johnson
Coach Harry Johnson has been the T-Bird Cross
Country Running and Track Coach since 1995, and was the ski coach for
three years.
Harry is an accomplished athlete in his own
right. He has completed over 80 marathon and ultra marathon races and
holds the Alaska Master record in the marathon. He also has the course
record in most of Alaska's major ultra marathons. He is a past winner
of the Crow Pass Crossing and won the first marathon ever held on the Antarctic
continent. Harry has completed seven Ironman triathlons and is
the Alaska record holder for the Ironman. He was on the "Team USA"
that competed at the world Duathlon Championships in Holland in 2001. In
addition he is an avid mountaineer and has climbed Mt. McKinley eight times,
climbed the highest peaks on five of the seven continents and led an expedition
to Mt. Everest. Harry's coaching credentials include certification by the USA Track and Field Association. He also works as a private coach for runners and triathletes. Under his guidance, East High has won five region championships in track, three state titles in track, a state title in skiing, and four region and three state titles in Cross Country Running. |
