Marquez and Udchachon Victorious at Resurrection Pass 100-mile and 50-mile
ultramarathons
In record 80 to 85 degree heat, Eliseo Marquez of Anchorage won the inaugural
Resurrection Pass 100 mile foot race on the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska.
Marquez’ time of 20 hours, 48 minutes and 45 seconds was set on an out-and-back
course that ranged from the Coeur d’Alene Campground and Palmer Creek Road
near Hope and over the Resurrection Pass Trail to Cooper Landing.
Monica Scholz from Ontario, Canada was first among the women in a time of
22 hours, 6 minutes, and 36 seconds.
In the eighth annual edition of the 50-mile event, Julie Udchachon of Eagle
River was the overall winner in a woman's record time of 8 hours, 17 minutes,
and 19 seconds. Udchachon’s time was 9 minutes faster than the previous
woman's record. Among the men in the 50-mile race, Kimball Forrest
of Anchorage was first in a time of 9 hours, 21 minutes, and 21 seconds.
