I've always been fascinated by video games. During the summer of 1976, our family traveled around the United States in a Winnebago. We stopped at the San Diego Marina and I played a game of Pong for $0.05. When I got back to Anchorage, some friends of mine were going over to Jewel Lake Bowl to play video games. I went in and was amazed. Of course they had pinball machines, but they also had Space Invaders and some other games. I was so excited to tell my father, but he severely scolded me an told me never to go back to that place. I debated with him to figure out why. He said it was because of all the bad people there who smoked, drank, gambled and hustled. I promised him that I wouldn't do any of these things, but he wouldn't listen and forever banned me. Years later I brought the subject up and he let me play the games. He had some 4-plexes and I collected all the quarters from his laundry machines and used them to play the games. Being my only addiction, it seemed harmless.
Today computers have become much faster and video games have come quite a long way.
I like to play Halo. My favorite server is Alabama T3 Foul Language. This server has one of the lowest pings, which for me is important with a 56K modem. I'm getting DSL so that should help.
The configuration of Alabama T3 Foul Language is | INFINITE GRENADES | CTF | 1 SCORPION, 1 ROCKET HOG, 1 50 CAL HOG, 1 BANSHEE AND 1 SNIPER RIFLE PER TEAM. The map is blood gulch. This is the ultimate field for a number of reasons. Blood gulch was designed to give each team an equal chance. There are limited places for snipers to get a good shot. A soldier standing on top of one base can only see the head of soldiers on the other bases, which limits how much sniping you can do from base to base. Still it is possible. The hogs can go almost anywhere on the map. The hummocks midfield make battles between soldiers with inf nades vs. scorps balanced. The winding road allows a hog to travel at top speed, but requires it to make turns, providing plenty of oppotunity to take them out with a rocket or shell. The mix of vehicles is just right- not too many and none of those silly ghosts.
Some of the characters I have met online are "babycakes", "JZD", "CaptainCock" (isn't that a nice name), "Justin", "Tyler" etc. My character's name is "Joe". My team hates me. I went to one server and the players all started complaining about the lag. I said that it was probably me and they said that it was and then I left. This would never happen at Alabama T3 Foul Language.
So one day I was playing online and then after about a minute or so, the screen would freeze and the audio track would repeat over and over again. I eventually tracked it to changing the video mode to 1024x768.
Bungie Studios created all the maps, characters, videos and other portions of Halo.
Gearbox Software ported the game to the PC. Microsoft already gets enough attention.
Gamespy runs the master server that all halo servers connect to. When you play halo for PC online, your computer opens a client port on this server. This server then sets you up with a game server of your choosing.
My friend David Hall loves World War II aircraft. Today he plays ACES HIGH with all of his friends.
