Nowhere to Run
The military will begin to use industrial robotic arms as remote weapons. Forget about the weenie wheeled urban warfare robots they have now. These machines will have remote vision and will be sent into hostile areas. They will have infrared detectors coupled to firearms mounted to the robotic arm. Wherever they go will be a no-mans land. So then it becomes machine vs. machine, much like Terminator. The technology is here today. What's that? You mean to tell me that somebody's already working on this sick idea? Never mind, these Talon things are kinda small... They should just mount a couple of ABB or Fanuc IA robots onto a mobile platform (tank). Tank provides power (batteries? gimme a break!) and stabilizes the robots while the robots protect the tank. The robots would have an excellent field of vision, and since they are already faily stout, they would take fire with hardly a scratch. They would precisely aim the weapon, especially if an accelerometer were mounted to the end of the arm, fed back to the motion-controller through a DSP. It could fire with deadly accuracy from a moving tank on anything that was warmer than ambient.
