Secret Lake Cabin
12/04/05- took a load of utility wood, potbelly stove and my second Komatik sled up to Secret Lake. Going to re-build the cabin that burned down in the Miller's Reach Fire (hint #1). My first goal is to get a very small heated space and a place to park my snowmachine out of the snow. Trip took 8 hours and I met one of our neighbors who just built a modern style quonset hut (hint #2) with R-38 walls/roof and in-floor heat... That has got to be one of the most efficient modern structure designs there is- as far as heating, strength, durability and materials conservation there is. Geometrically, the only more perfect structure is a half-dome from both a structural and heating standpoint. The komatik tracked wonderfully behind the Skandic and it hauled all the wood in one trip. I highly recommend the komatik to all snowmachiners- utilitarian, easy to build, durable-especially if the front/rope-holes are reinforced with epoxy/fiberglass.
Lots of fresh air and exercise in -12deg F. weather makes me invigorated and ready to start the week fresh!
