There was a week or two in January 2010 when the temperatures were into the 40s every day. The Naknek River opened up nicely, and we were able to launch our Boats from the Ramp at Lake Camp.
On a bright, sunny January 30th, I caught my first fish of the 2010 Season. This is the first fish of any kind that I have ever caught in Alaska during the month of January. |
My Friend, Mike James (Cook for Chugach Support Services) took this picture of a little Weasel in Winter Colors.
He was just curious enough to keep poking his head out for this Photo. |
The next day, the weather was not quite as nice, but the fishing was much better. We each caught about a dozen Rainbow Trout. Mike also caught a couple of decent Dolly Varden.
I caught this first Fish of the day from the Boat. A beautiful, fat Hen that measured 27 inches. |
We fished in several spots from Lake Camp to Rapids Camp. The water was extremely low, and wading was very easy on the lower section of the rapids. I caught this handsome Buck in the lower section. He also measured 27 inches. I think I like January in King Salmon. |
