In 2005, Valdez had a record return of Pink Salmon. We visited the area the week after the Fourth of July Weekend on our annual Baker Family fishing/camping trip.
Christa (now Walker) works a Pink she has hooked on a Pixie while Brother Devin (recently returned from his Mormon Mission) waits to net the fish. |
Christa holds the big "Humpy" she has landed. Christa seems to really have a knack at catching Pink Salmon. She generally outfishes her less persistent Brothers. |
If there are large schools of visible Salmon, flyfishing can become the most effective means of hooking fish. In 2005, conditions were very favorable.
My Son in Law, Jeremy Walker caught his first Salmon on a Fly using the irresistable Egg-Sucking Leech. |
Jeremy and I made Fly Rods together during the Sping of 2005. Jeremy used his new H&H IM6 6WT to catch this fish.
Jeremy holds this humped up fish up for a closeup. |
Mack showed a little more perseverence in 2005 and his efforts paid off. He caught quite a few Pinks using a Pixie and Spinning Rod.
This is one of the better Pinks that Mack proudly holds up for the camera. |
JT invited Nicole Carvajal as a special guest with the Family in 2005. Nicki has not done much fishing, but she caught on quickly. She wasn't quite as comfortable holding the fish.
Nicki also tried her hand at flyfishing. She was able to hook several fish, but wasn't quite able to get them to the boat. |
