A great number of control applications require that electrical equipment
operate within areas that are classified “Hazardous” due to accumulation of
flammable/explosive gasses, vapors, or dust particles. In these cases it is
necessary to make use of control components that are specified “explosion-
proof”, or to use specialized enclosures made to safely contain any internal
ignition of flammable substances, and prevent them from igniting flammables
external to the enclosure. These enclosures are referred to as Explosion-Proof
Enclosures.
