United States steals our Factory System!!

by Katherine Longden

They set up companies such as the "Merrimack Manufacturing Co." to print textiles just as fast as us, and they found a way to prevent smoke. I was told that this is done by the way they use large waterfalls and rivers for a power source. The Americans also use women in their factories as workers. What a radical idea! Around many of these factories, cities appear. These instant cities can be set up over night using the balloon frame to build houses and buildings.

Slavery Issue Grows In United States

The South needs slaves to grow its crops, most importantly cotton. With the cotton gin, cotton is more quickly produced and the Southern economy is growing. Without the slaves, who would get all the work done? Seeing as agriculture is important to the South, slavery is also, but the North protests slavery. The rift deepens between the North and the South over slavery.

 Whitney's Mass Production

by Katherine Longden

Eli Whitney came up with an ingenious way of producing a large number of identical items quickly and efficiently. His idea was first tested on the musket. He designed a machine to make each individual piece of the musket then the workers, who did not need much skill, simply put the muskets together. These new muskets work and can be easily fixed if a piece breaks because that piece can be replaced. This new system is called the Interchangeable system.
