Our Beginnings:

The Alaska Children's Choir (then the Anchorage Children's Choir) was founded in 1979 by Renda Horn and Julie Baxley.
The Alaska Children's Choir strives to provide a quality musical experience for Southcentral Alaska children. It is our intent to provide the highest quality instruction in singing technique and music theory, and to expose our singers to the best repertoire and the highest performance standards possible.

Janet earned her Bachelor of Arts cum laude in Vocal Music Education at St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota. She has done post-graduate work in Early Childhood Music and Choral Music at Brigham Young University, Dominican College, and with the Robert Shaw Workshop at Carnegie Hall, New York.
Janet has served as clinician and guest conductor for local and regional vocal and choral events. In addition to her duties with the Alaska Children’s Choir, Janet teaches private voice and piano lessons as well as Exploring Music classes for preschool children. She has served as Music Director for several Valley Performing Arts productions and serves as Music Director for Trinity Lutheran Church in Palmer.

Joanne Wyatt

Joanne Wyatt, Choir Manager

Joanne, a long-time choir parent, joined the management team in the Spring semester of 1998 as our manager. She handles all the day-to-day operations of the choir, as well as tour preparations, the workings of our concerts, and all our financial operations. Joanne and her husband Dale have two children in the choir. Joanne is an Accounting graduate of the Minnesota School of Business, and has studied business and accounting through UAA.

Joshua Wyatt

Joshua Wyatt, Website Administrator

Joshua was a member of the Choir for 10 years, six of those years being in the Touring Choir. Sadly, his voice changed (as boy's voices tend to do), and he left the ranks of the Choir. Joshua is now a member of the Anchorage Concert Chorus, but remains with the Alaska Children's Choir as the Website and Document Design departments. Joshua enjoys computer stuff, logistics, and, of course, music.
