Native American Fish & Wildlife Society Application for Scholarship Award
Purpose of Award:
To enable Indian students to pursue a course of study leading toward:
a. An undergraduate or graduate degree in natural resources, fisheries, wildlife management, resource recreation, conservation law enforcement, forestry, or environmental science.
Maximum Award:
This will be a one-time award of $500.00 (U. S.) presented by the Native American Fish & Wildlife Society which can be used for any aspect of an undergraduate, technical or graduate education, including tuition, textbooks, equipment, travel, and living expenses. This award is made directly to the student and not to the student's educational institution. It is not intended to replace funding obligated to the student from other resources.
Eligible Applicant:
a. Member of a federally-recognized tribe, Alaska Native or Eskimo.
b. Must be a full-time student at an accredited institution of higher education in of the related natural resource fields.
c. Applicants are encouraged to be a member of the Native American Fish & Wildlife Society (yearly student membership is $7.50).
Application:
a. Acceptance into an accredited institution of higher education.
b. Submit appropriate high school, undergraduate, or graduate transcripts.
c. Three letters of recommendation (1. tribal representative; 2. teacher, counselor, etc., and 3. community member).
d. Brief educational and career commitment essay of your career goal.
e. Evidence of scholastic and service awards, if available.
Evaluation of Applicant (Total points awarded = 100)
a. Review of applicants grades, transcripts and essay (70 points)
b. Documentation of any leadership positions held by applicants while in school and three letters of assessment that address the applicant's potential for success and leadership in his/her field. (30 points).
What Conditions Must be Met by Selected Applicant:
a. Verification of information provided, as requested.
b. Must have an overall GPA of 2.0
A one-time award will be disbursed directly to the student. Candidates are encouraged to provide at least two years of service to the Indian community, if employment is available, upon completion of his/her chosen field of study.
