The Harder Foundation makes grants in Alaska and selected western states for environmental purposes. The Foundation is particularly interested in preservation of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, and broadscale preservation of wildlife habitat. Projects funded by the Harder Foundation usually involve efforts to achieve long-term protection of specific public forests and wildlands, rivers and estuaries.

The Foundation makes project grants, general support grants and endowment grants. Grants in the range of $1,000 to $20,000 will be made for environmental projects with local, state, or regional significance. Grants in the range of $5,000 to $20,000 per year will be made for general support of local or regional groups, often for a two or three- year period. Endowment grants ranging from $25,000 to $250,000 and requiring match contributions or other conditions, are made occasionally to environmental groups. The selection of these organizations will be initiated by the Foundation from grantees it has supported in the past.

Grant applications will be accepted from March 1 through August 15.
